The Requirements Engineering syllabus is drawn from the BCS Practitioner Certificate in Requirements Engineering and covers five areas:
1. The Requirements Engineering Framework The RE framework and how its activities interrelate and depend on each other. The actors involved in requirements engineering from both the business side and the project team. The four types of requirements and how to correctly categorize them in exam scenarios. The requirements hierarchy and its link to strategy and legal obligations.
2. Requirements Elicitation: Tacit versus explicit knowledge and how elicitation technique selection changes accordingly. The five core elicitation techniques tested at the practitioner level with depth on when each is appropriate, their advantages and limitations, and how to select the right technique for a given scenario.
3. Requirements Analysis: The four quality filters for requirements and prioritizing requirements using MoSCoW applied to scenarios. Business rules and how they affect requirements.
4. Requirements Documentation Text-based documentation (the requirements catalogue with all its elements and user stories). Diagrammatic documentation (data models, use case models, and business process models). The product backlog, and prioritization in an Agile context. The Business Requirements Document structure.
5. Requirements Validation and Management Formal requirements validation, agile requirements validation. Horizontal and vertical traceability. Change control.

The RE exam is an invigilated online exam accessed at the date and time you are registered to attend. No materials may be taken into the exam.
